VMware vCenter Converter Standalone p2v hangs at 1%

When you kick off a p2v from a powered-on Linux machine, you need to login as root to the source and you need an appropriate account on the destination ESXi server. The communications do NOT go to the ESXi host; they go to a ‘helper VM’ that ESXi creates as a destination. That is, you need a 3rd IP address (source, ESXi host, and destination). If you don’t have DHCP in your subnet, you’ll need to manually configure networking for the destination VM before clicking the Go button on the conversion process.
